Superhero movies have certainly grown in popularity these
last few years. They no longer have the campy elements they did in the
sixties or seventies and have a darker, more relevant tone to them that makes
them a good watch for adults as well as kids. The most popular of the
latest comic-book superhero movies is Christopher Nolan’s Batman series.
The last movie in his trilogy was a box office and critical
smash over the summer. The film follows Bruce Wayne/Batman who, still reeling
over the death of Harvey Dent, has to face a new nemesis,
Bane, a terrorist leader who conducts a hostile takeover of Gotham with intent
to destroy it. Now, Batman has to face his most menacing villain yet, with the
help of a thief called Catwoman. Can Batman save Gotham before the villain’s
weapon, a fusion reactor, wipes the city off the map?
This movie has some great points going for it. It boasts
some fine performances; the two I like the most would be Tom Hardy as Bane and
Anne Hathaway, who totally surprised me as Catwoman, since I questioned her
choice in the role. The film as wonderful cinematography the really shows off
some wonderful fight choreography.
Though, the movie does some points going against it would be
the villain’s plot, which is essentially a rehash of the evil, though
implausible scheme from the first film. Though there maybe a few things in
the plot (or Christian Bale’s voice of choice as Batman) I could nitpick (which I'd hate to do), but I couldn't say that I wasn't entertained.
This movie can be exhilarating, but I
could help but fell that “The Dark Knight” was such a high note, that this
movie couldn't reach. Through all of this, “The Dark Knight Rises” give
complex emotions and did bring a nice satisfying conclusion to the popular
series.
